I don't know how heavy those blocks are but the seem ++ tonnage and look to fit pretty snug together on all fronts. Big stuff piled high?
Jon, if you are around, can you explain how this would have been done in the ancient world? How to lower in place with no ropes around stones? Could there have been some kind of metal contraption surrounding the stone which held the stones by its sides so rope not underneath and, therefore, no need to remove same? If lifted with a rope wrapped around it...how on earth do they get the rope out and then move to fit so closely? They are also stacked pretty high and very tightly fitting all the way from top to bottom...some mighty fine chiseling indeed only to be outdone by lifting these multi-ton blocks high and placed so well?
At the 8 min mark, it appears that they were in the process of excavating this site. I don't know at moment.
As per always, I hope others find of interest even if only in passing.
