On Monday, 26FEB18, members of the Glen Dash Foundation for Archaeological Research scaled the Great Pyramid of Giza to ascertain the monument’s true coordinate location. At the summit, the team recovered the Pyramid’s “first order” control monument, “Station E1”. A Global Positioning System was used to delimit the precise latitude and longitude. Once the coordinates were obtained, calculations were made to tie E1 to the base of the mast erected in 1875, at the center of the structure’s present uppermost level, by Sir David Gill.

”The published coordinates for the center of the top of the Great Pyramid plotted on Google Earth place it more than 180 [160?] meters west of its true location. These coordinates are based on the now obsolete “Helmert reference ellipsoid,” proposed as the shape of the Earth in 1906. The current, widely adopted reference ellipsoid, WGS 1984, was proposed in 1984. Since there is no practical way to convert from the old to the current reference ellipsoid with high accuracy, the Glen Dash Foundation Survey team climbed to the top of the Great Pyramid to re-establish its exact coordinates on the WGS reference ellipsoid.”
The previous location, identified at 29° 58’ 44.44” N 31° 07’ 57.08” E (29.97901° N 31.13252° E), has been supplanted by the Dash Foundation’s revised location at 29° 58’ 45.05570” N 31° 08’ 03.11209” E (29.97918° N 31.1342° E).
