Malay Seafarers and the Dingo (2 replies)

A recent news article I read had an interesting assertion that the Dingo was brought to Australia likely by Malaysian seafarers. Reading Wikipedia the claim is made again:
“The earliest known dingo fossil remains, found in Western Australia, date to 3,450 years before present (YBP),[1][2][13] which led to the presumption that dingoes arrived to Australia with seafarers 5,000 YBP.”

Further down the article it identifies the Malay Archpelago as the likely source. This begs the question of the identity of the sea farers. Did they make multiple journeys which resulted in the establishment of a wild dog popularity in Australia which spread through the mainland? If so, that would imply a navigation capable culture or would it have been shorter hops such as via Indonesia?
