Is anyone 3D scanning (2 replies)

3D scanning technology has become so accessible, its gone from massive investments in the order of hundreds of thousands of dollars down to very nearly something you might find under a Christmas tree in some more affluent neighborhoods along with a personal 3D printing machine. I'm not talking about the kind of 3D scanning that can penetrate density. I'm referring to the devices that can literally paint the 3D shapes of real objects right onto your computer screens as a wire sculpture of any level of detail including all the 3D mathematical information to be able to analyze, modify, and scale for the purpose of reproduction in sculptural form in any material.

So why do I not see all the artifacts mentioned and analyzed by Chris Dunn scanned as proof of the evidence of perfect symmetry, perfection in machine patterns, arcs, balance, etc.

It would be so easy. It doesn't damage the material. A kids laptop could manage the software, and it would substantiate to the masses the very odd perfection of the shapes to snap them out of the old school thinking.

I continue to read peoples very reasonable hypothesis on this site and then succumb to the disintegration of purpose as a topic by seemingly very stubborn myopia that simply can't continue to exist with the evidence out there. So when I can see a means to substantiate claims that get torn apart by this insistence that pot shards trumps common sense, I have to put it out there.

Bottom line, if a teenager can prove, without permission, in 5 minutes lagging behind a tour group, with 3D scanned mathematical certainty that the Coffins of the Serapeum are rectangular voids of geometric perfection, and that the face of Ramses is perfectly symmetrical, etc etc, shouldn't that close the book on any argument that it could have been done with hand tools? And by extension, shouldn't that reboot this discussion? Because its coming. Its so easy its inevitable.
