Gardiner signs V1 and Z7 (no replies)

The Gardiner glyphs V1 and Z7 are generally accepted to represent a coil of rope. I’m curious as to what lead to the conclusion these signs were rope? Looking at early pottery, the artisans coiled clay and then pinched the coils together to form a vessel.

This article mentions that early in the new kingdom the Egyptians made spiral copper wire called uten:

At certain periods in Egyptian history, as, for example, early in the new Empire (2130 B.C.), copper seems to have been recognized as the standard of value, and accounts were reckoned in uten of copper. These coins, if such they may be called, were made of very exact weight (about 91 grams), and were in the form of a spiral.

There seems to be a large number of coiled things. Why do we think it’s rope in the glyph?
