I found several references on the web to silt sediments up to fourteen feet deep having surrounded the base of the Great Pyramid and legends regarding watermarks on the stones halfway up its sides, with salt incrustations found within. The silt sediments evidently contain(ed) many seashells and fossils that have been radiocarbon-dated to be nearly twelve thousand years old. However, I could not find any original references to the source(s) of the legends, or the scientific papers in which the carbon dating results were published.
