Hi,
Starting this new thread to continue on from Phi Days & Michaelmas.
To begin with, why is Ophiuchus such a central constellation to so many myths and religions? Many countries' patron saints, such as Michael, Patrick, James, George, and other religious figures such as Buddha, Christ, Thor, Yama, Viracocha, Hades, the Cretan snake goddess, Typhon, and even features such as sacred mountains, mounds, termite mounds, or the "conical hut" or "booth" that Jonah makes under the gourd, are most likely derived from the constellation Ophiuchus. See the work of David Warner Mathisen.
Many of these associations can also be linked to the sun. Why?
Can a link have been known about between Ophiuchus and the centre of the Milky Way long ago?
Ophiuchus is the serpent bearer. What do the snakes mean?
What is the significance of rocks and mountains?
How does all this tie in with a possible world-wide network of sacred places, which may be as old as the world-wide system of myth that has come down to us?
Melissa
