The giants of these legends may have been Neanderthals. We now have DNA evidence of cross breeding between homo sapiens and the Neanderthals.
I hypothesize that Neanderthals during the ice age would have been the dominant culture. They would have occupied the "best" areas of land at this time. Most likely inhabiting the coastal region now under 400 feet of water. Along with the highest points were all the ancient pyramids are today.
This may explain the size, relative to modern-day man,and a total blind spot in conception of modern-day humans.
Could we have been the primitive people? The hunter/ gatherers squeaking out a living in the shadows of a thriving Neanderthal civilization. A civilization lost to the violent tidal destruction caused during the younger dryas.
