American-Egyptian correspondence (1 reply)

Hello:

A fact remembered from a book I read: This is a book about 'Shananditti', the last surviving member of the Beothuk tribe of Canada. She spent her last years in the household of a local magistrate, who had concerned himself with her welfare. While there, she made a lot of drawings and wrote text, telling of her people's history as she knew it. One of the things described (and reproduced) were her scale drawings of some ceremonial staves used by her people, and the editor of the book remarks that they 'bear the same dimensions as Egyptian sun staves', and then admits that there seems to be no explanation for this similarity. I own a copy of the book, but unfortunately cannot lay hands on it right now, because I move recently and am far from finished settling in. I imagine you may be able to access a copy easily, but should that not be the case, please let me know, and I will make an effort to locate it and send you a scan. Here is a link to a good site about the tribe: [www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca]

Best regards,

Dorrit Hansen
