I have never thought the 'head' of the serpent is a head at all, but an egg, perhaps an egg of the universe. That might be why the stones are placed there, as a gateway. Having seen quite a few moccasins swallow an egg, it looks like a serpent eating an egg to me.
Our land has been with us since early colonial times and there are two mounds on it. One is huge and covered by trees, and the other is in the open but untouched except for cows grazing on it. I never mentioned it before, even to my mentor in archaeology. I thought perhaps they deserved to keep their secrets. Perhaps oneday I shall do some scans with sonar or other equipment. But otherwise as long as I live they will stay untouched.
