Ancient Civs and the Moon (4 replies)

Just a starter topic really. Why is the moon not heavily featured in the acnient civs, temples and astronomical buildings? Surely the moon would have been far more of a curiosity, and much easier to measure its' movements - yet there is almost nothing mentioned about ancients taking note of it. We have theoretical markers to measure movements of the sun, but next to nothing for the moon.
Could it be that the moon wasn't there at the time and in fact was the cause of the cataclysm some 12,500 years ago? I know that the "Capture Theory" has been scientifically de-bumked, but I can't help wondering....... Is it possible that Velikovsky got it wrong by naming Venus, when it was actually the moon that caused the cataclysm. Gravitational effects would have been horrendous but earth movement and tidal waves would have caused enormous damage - and the Poles may well have shifted as a result. We know that at some time in the past the Sahara was a verdant area, and that Antarctica was probably in a temperate zone.
What are your thoughts?
