Who names the constellations? (no replies)

As I was listening to the audiobook Fingerprints of the Gods and ALSO reading along in the book at the same time, a question popped into my mind.

How would an upcoming civilization (after catastrophy) know what the names of the constellations were? Would it matter if they did not know what 'the age of aquarius' was? or any other astrological signs? I cannot see animals etc, in the stars just by looking at the nightsky. I only know because I have been educated into what they are. It's not really an intuitive thing to me, so I'm curious. What is the origin of the astrological 'wheel'? (I guess that's what it's called?)
