I find the notion of "civilizing heroes" in Ancient Apocalypse very noteworthy.
But it begs the question:
Why the iconography of feathered serpents to commemorate them in certain cultures?
The serpents that pulled Quetzacoatl's boat were surely just the sails, oddly described. But why depict him as a serpent?
The feathers might be just an odd description of colorful cloths.
The only explanation I could come up with currently is the relation to the comet-trail depictions. So, as he was associated with that occurence and since that was so often portrayed and remembered with snake symbolism, he got symbolised with that as well...
This inference might be reasonable but does mot feel sufficient. Or I would like to at least hear some other possible explanations.
Thank you in advance.
