Does Earth have a heartbeat? Yes, I think it does. How could a dead thing otherwise sustain life? It's a philosophical question that requires more attention from scientists. I think the Gaia theory is as real as life on Earth itself.
A thought experiment shows how earthquakes and extrapolations of heartbeats of mammals relate to eachother. It even seems to relate to a kind of heartbeat of the sun, called the Hallstattzeit cycles. I haven't deepened out this topic thoroughly enough to make real connections with mammals, but it's more or less a funny math experiment to how alive our planet actually could be.
Very heavy earthquakes (>8.5) show up every 40 to 44 years.
