Prehistoric Megaliths and Ice Age (2 replies)

The biggest, finest, and most mysterious prehistoric megalithic structures (Stonehenge, Baalbek, Easter island, Saksaywaman etc..) seems to lie in the areas which were not covered by ice during the last ice age. I prefer the theory of pre-ice age megalith builders.

The slowly moving ice age ice sheet broke stones, carved bedrock, and reshaped landscapes. The small and modest megalithic structures which now lies in the formerly glaciated areas are erected after the melting of the ice sheet. And if there were older gigantic pre-ice age megaliths the ice destroyed them.

For instance, during the glacial maximum north England was covered by ice, and thus northern megalithic structures are surely younger than 20 000 years. However, they are modest and cannot be compared with Stonehenge, which was about one hundred kilometer distance from the ice sheet. Due to its location, it is possible that Stonehenge was built before the ice age.

So, the most famous prehistoric megaliths seems to lie in the areas which were never covered by the ice sheet, whereas the smaller megaliths lie in the formerly glaciated areas. Does this suggest that there were global pre-ice age megalith culture, which was more competent with stones than the after ice age civilizations? Or does it just tell us that the best megalith builders favoured a warm climate?
