Col. Howard Vyse entered the Bent Pyramid in 1839 looking for treasure and found the pyramid, according to reports, in an excellent state of preservation. A recent research group in the pyramid has provided some interesting images which may throw some light onto the fake Khufu cartouche debate centred around the Great Pyramid.
Previous digital discussion notwithstanding, the following images in the Bent Pyramid closely resemble the same red splotches, lines and plastering in Campbell's Chamber in the GP. Apparently, according to cartouche conspiracy theorists, these red splotches were the result of a member of the Vyse team being none too careful with his paintbrush. The red lines have not been explained except by Flinders Petrie who examined similar ones in Lady Arbuthnot's Chamber in the GP. The pencil lines remain a mystery.
Surely, Vyse and his cohorts weren't accidentally flicking red paint onto the ceiling in a passage in the Bent Pyramid, were they?
