Great Pyramid, Kings Chamber, Coffer, Antechamber. (10 replies)

I and apparently many others have held the long held belief that the granite box housed within the Kings Chamber of G1 had to have been placed into the chamber during construction of the pyramid because it was simply too large to have fitted inside and along the passages leading south from the Grand Gallery through the Antechamber and into the Kings Chamber.

According to Petrie and subsequently the drawings by M&R this seems not to be the case.

The height and width dimensions given by Petrie for the coffer are as follows.

Height 41.31 inches 104.920 cm
Width 38.507 inches 97.808 cm

The Height and width dimensions given by M&R for the KC entrance are as follows.

Height 115.00 cm
Width 105.00 cm


Close examination of photographs taken on a plane horizontal to the upper edge of the coffer seem to confirm this.
The upper edge of the coffer being substantially lower than the first wall course, which in turn defines the height of the passageway.




To this end I explored graphically the possibility of positioning the coffer within the passageway and the Antechamber.

The coffer serving as a blocking stone or plug block at the KC entrance.





It can be seen that the coffer wall thickness given by Petrie as 5.83" 14.808 cm, is a good match for the Antechamber vertical rib width given by M&R as 15 cm.
