Why do civilizations collapse? (no replies)

This article argues that 'silver bullet' theories about civilizational collapse are delusional and oversimplifications of history. Civilizations never collapse, but theocracies and monarchies or principalities or nation-states do. A civilizational collapse can rarely be pinned to climate change or a cataclysm, but more perhaps to a breakdown in political or social structure that are caused by humans. Cataclysms and and climate change certainly contribute to this, but the end result is that while the political structure often dissolves, the civilization usually endures, while being transformed by it... from the Indus Valley to the Mayans.
