The Great Pyramid - A Core Issue (116 replies)

Hi All,

How often do we read that the Great Pyramid consists of X number of blocks with an average weight of 2.5 tons? Actually, there are no average blocks. Each core block is different in size, shape, weight and some are even different materials. Some are eroding badly. Some are almost in the same condition in which they were laid. Some aren't blocks at all.

The prevailing theory is that the core blocks were cut from a Nummulite limestone quarry in close proximity to the Great Pyramid, and that the casing stones are quite likely Tura limestone transported from across the Nile. One would assume that the cost in labour and time in using Tura limestone for the core blocks would prevent such work from occurring. Is this so?

It has long been my contention that the Great Pyramid was constructed using the Core and Mantle method and was done so, one course at a time with the Mantle (Casing Stones) laid first and the Core laid behind as more or less backfill. A contrary claim is that the Core was constructed first, and when completed, the casing stones were then laid from the base to the apex - a method which would be extremely difficult to achieve, if not totally impossible.

The following images (although lacking somewhat in definition) add weight to the Core and Mantle premise.

Some blocks on the lower courses have unusual slit marks not representative of rough quarry work.

Blocks high up on the Pyramid appear to be Nummulite and Tura. How could this be if the core was completed first? But, if the Pyramid was completed one course at a time, this mixture of materials would make sense as the residuals of the larger casing stones could have been used as core material.

Some blocks appear as though they could have been cut quite recently.

While others higher up have eroded so badly that they are almost shapeless and have turned to dust.

The blocks at the top certainly aren't 2.5 tons.

In some areas blocks are Nummulite, Tura and bricks.

What are the bricks for? Certainly not repairs.

In some places the bricks appear to be sealing up a cavity in a core block. Why?

Internet sites abound with what really seems to be a parroting of an incorrect premise regarding the construction of the Great Pyramid. Are they right?
