Hello everyone.
Had to dive in and throw two "coppers" out there................
I enjoy coming here to review some of the topics and comments. It's a bit of a select crowd, quite a few critics, but it is a message board and I am impressed by many of the posters.
Impressed because many of you are or seem to be, particularly invested in the subject of Egyptology.
So as to not waste the time of the reader lets get this out there now: I have NO answers, I am not "invested" in this topic, nor am I an academician or archeologist. Just a person interested in the past.
So lets get to it -
1) WHEN were the three principle pyramids constructed at the Giza complex?
2) WHOM built these structures?
3) HOW did they build them?
4) WHAT was the purpose of these structures?
From my layman's perspective, I suspect these are the principal questions, that haunt the minds and souls of those in Egyptology.
Before you reply (I hope someone will) let me tell you what "I" think from afar in the land of proletarian ignorance:
When - The "available" literature on the subject seems to be over-whelming that the three big boys were built around 2550-2490 B.C.
Whom - Egyptians of Course
How - Considering the number of competing theories I will just say: Undetermined.
What For - Pharaoh's tombs seem to be the overwhelming choice of the popular literature.
Unless I have my (General for Public Consumption) "facts" listed incorrectly the above seem to be the typical answers. I suspect supported by Egyptian authorities, Historians and the reincarnation of "Ramses II" himself - Zahi Hawass.
SO B4 you leave:
When - Seems like a cross section of you perhaps "dispute" the when part, certainly Graham and Robert Schoch have gone on record suggesting the antiquity of the Sphinx is much OLDER than the Pyramids? Which brings up intriguing questions and possibilities, so - Would anyone care to comment on the "When"?
Whom - As a layman, I find any answer other than "Egyptians" as leaning toward "insane" - could their have been CONSULTANTS from various other tribes / cultures / cities - Pretty sure the answer is YES, my Bronze Age research has suggested that it was quite common, REGULAR, in fact, that craftsmen of various trades, refined their skills, and were employed by the wealthy all over the Bronze Age World.
HOW - I suspect this is the HOTTEST of the four items, HOW DID THEY DO IT. I was intrigued by the French Guy whom came up with the rope and pulley system in the great hall, but after coming here, quickly learned this was "de-bunked" by many posters. My only certainties: Built by humans with tools. Primary labor force: Egyptians. Foreigners may have been involved, Outside of that, I make no claim.
What For - Hmmm, what for indeed. Again, as a Layman, I find it VERY DIFFICULT to come up with any answer that does not reside squarely with the Pharaohs or High Priests at the very least.
Advanced communication or teleportation machine? - Nope, sorry, show me evidence. I struggle with Grahams theories, never mind the propaganda ministers (in it for the buck) at History/Prometheus/Other misinformation outlets.
I understand there are numerous explanations for these structures, most of which are, in my Layman's mind.......preposterous.
AND NOW for the TOPPER - What IN THE HELL is WRONG with Academia? This Egyptology PISSING match among you intellectuals is a bit discouraging to spectate.
Hawass? I guess he has the (Woe is Us) bug so far up his ass he refuses to work with non Egyptians or even Egyptians that are not LOCK STEP with his own views.
Yes, Yes, I do KNOW all about Western Imperialism, French, British and other European nations LOOTING the site. I know that. I also have a degree of empathy for the Egyptian concern of cultural misappropriation.
But DAMN doesn't professionalism, respect and mutual cooperation count for anything?
SO MUCH infighting among so many parties................. Sucks when some of the smartest most accomplished people on earth act like 3rd graders over a few left over Oreo's.
Whats wrong with some level of investigation in that supposed "Void" found by Japanese Scientists?
How about the possibility of that "hidden" room in Tut's chambers?
It just seems like the deal NOW is lack of cooperation, ridicule and better yet, the destruction of reputations.
I may not be an accomplished Scientist but I at least understand the value of mutual cooperation toward a common goal.......the truth.......isn't that what the goals really are??
So before Ya'll (what a great, lazy Southern expression) go postal on me, I just thought you should consider what the cheap seats are thinking about all this.
Have a great day and may the truth be revealed.
