Alignments of Historical Sites to Constellations (1 reply)

New member- if this is a duplicate, please link/redirect accordingly. Just completed the Netflix series. Very thought provoking. And so: What software and data was/is used to simulate the earth’s view of outer space, from a given point, at a given time? I ask because I’d love to crunch some data. My thought process:

    1. Disparity in site/temple placements could be tied to when their constructions were started and being pointed toward given constellations they were focused on at that time. Some appeared circular, which might map the planet’s rotation against those build sites at the time? Chasing them, so to speak?
    2. What’s it look like if you map the directions those sites are pointing toward, into outer space, based on the earliest carbon dating found at those sites? This is in the same vein as the first question- looking for correlations between the alignment of these sites toward the stars based on the earth-to-space alignment at that time.
    3. How do solstices factor into the aforementioned data? Is it included?
    4. Does the data exist to trend it? Is it captured in a way that one can, with a reasonable degree of confidence, step backwards and forwards through a set location on earth’s view of the solar system at a given time? If not, why? I’m wondering if we could pull it? I have a lot of ideas in that regard…

I’m all about the data (M.S., Information Sciences) and again- would love to get the datasets to analyze and compare- would love to find that tree, shake it, and see what falls out.
