Today, I wanna discuss the history of the Ohio Winameg Mounds.
Winameg, is a small village of close to 100 people in Fulton County, Ohio. Located just south of the Michigan border. The mounds here in Winameg are one of the oldest mounds to date. The artifacts are believed to be from 8,000BC to 15,000BC.
The history of these mounds get more interesting. These mounds were found around a tree that was known as “Council Oak”. Council Oak was known to be one of the biggest trees in the area. Many archaeologists found mutilated bodies, with heads next to their abdomens, which is believed to be sacrificial burials around Council Oak.
I was able to find the first excavation notes on this land from the year 1893!!!!

Growing up near here, the history of this place always fascinated me. Especially when artifacts here are well over 10,000 years old!
If any Midwest America people are interested in early history, this is a good read for sure.
