Pictures seem to show water pathways to the pit of the “snake head god” from a water hole.
It seems like this is a pit of sacrifice where humans would be strapped to the pillars to stare at the carved deity as they died and light from the winter solstice shon on the stone head.
Water would flow from the higher pit through the channels to drown the sacrifices. (For the winter solstice sacrifice thousands would come through the complex enjoying beer. lol.)
Perhaps this was sacrifice on an industrial scale. Water kept in higher pit, ,moved by buckets on an endless conveyer. Or how about this: the “Archimedean Screw” back then. Movement of water to and from the “snake head” sacrificial water pit was simply by the input of energy.
The figure of the leopard god on a man is symbolically sacrificed repeatedly - the leopard god subservient to the “snake head” god.
