Analysing numbers in creation myths (6 replies)

Hello everyone,

I am a 27 years old French software developer and I recently made a study that might interest you.

I collected creation myths from all over the world (200+). Most of them are thousands of years old. I ran a number frequency analysis to see if some numbers were repeating themselves too much in all the collected creation myths.

Link to the result of this study

The result is quite surprising. The main anomaly is that the number 7 is strongly overrepresented in creation myths. Few examples:

1. Mesopotamians having 7 great gods (or Anunnaki)
2. Many things last 7 days in the Mayan creation myth (Mayans did not have a week of 7 days)
3. Egyptian sacred texts are also weirdly filled with 7

It's not a "natural" result. A natural result would be something that verifies Benford's law. It's quite a strong hint that there is a common origin between them.

I don't yet have statistics on this, but I need to check which civilizations mentioned the number 7 too much because it feels like (just a feeling from me at the moment) it's the one with the most mysteries (Mayans, Egyptians, etc.).

I hope you will find this interesting. It's almost impossible to claim that it's random from a statistical perspective.

Thanks a lot for your time! I would be happy to explain in more detail the ongoing statistical study on creation myths and sacred texts from all over the world.
