It is well known that Leonardo Da Vinci used mirror-writing to conceal the meaning of his words so maybe he also used a mirror for his paintings and drawings to conceal images of catheads. It was long suspected that Leonardo's beliefs were not strictly in line with those of the Christian church and now we have discovered that using a mirror on his paintings allows distinctive Catheads to be revealed by combining the physical painted half-image with the ethereal reflected mirror image. It appears that he may have been a recent member of a long line of pagan cathead worshippers stretching back in time through the Knights Templar, the Picts, Ancient Egyptians to Neolithic times. Although the earliest worshippers of the Cathead god, the Great God, protector of the winter Sun, known to us as the constellation of Capricorn, hid the god as a half-image that could be revealed in full using a small mirror placed close to the eye for reasons of aniconism, following the arrival of Christianity, the hiding of the veneration of the Cathead god using the portrayal of a half image pattern concealed within a painting was a useful device to protect those believers from the cruel attention of the church.

(The origins of the Cathead god go back to 3000BC when the constellation of Capricorn was identified as a Cathead when its brightest stars were joined up by imaginary lines. The stars of Capricorn were not visible in the night sky during the winter months because they rose and set with the Sun and were therefore regarded as especially important and the Cathead god regarded as the Protector god of the winter Sun. However precession of the equinoxes meant that this belief had a sell-by date as Capricorn and the Sun separated so that by around 8BC the Cathead god could be seen to no longer fulfill its function as its stars were clearly visible in the winter night skies and a new set of beliefs was required.)
