One thing that people should keep in mind when looking for Atlantis is that it is said to be bigger than Africa and Asia combined, and just from that fact alone most claims can be rejected as being Atlantis mainland, but could be connected in some way or some other unknown or miss classified ancient sites, and of no less importance in filling in the story of our past.
The fact that it is said to be bigger or as big as Asia and Africa and the world at least to the masses was considered to be flat, as well a the map showing Atlantis at the north pole, point to north and south America being part of Atlantis, and The land most people may have visited easiest was the ice continent at the north pole. When it melted from below and the breakup started it was over in a day, sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
The fact that people seen Atlantis sink in a day, or the connecting city, the original connection between east and west was north then south, and with no way to see that north and south America were still in fact there, but were assumed to have sank along with the Main City at the North Pole.
Regardless if I am right or not, the size as quoted I believe should be first and foremost in any consideration for Atlantis!
