This should have had a thread of its own from the start, so now I’ve given it one.
What strikes me in particular (and my reason for this post) is this:

On 21 January, Creighton had this to say:
“In fact I’ve, er, you know, when my, er, book, erm, came out, erm, I actually received an email from an Egyptologist, telling me that, yeah, you’re right, we know they’re fake. So, erm, I can’t tell that person’s name—I would love to, but I have to protect my source.”
By 12 February, it had turned into this:
http://www.talkzone.com/episodes/204/CSP020417.html
First segment, listen from circa 36:00.
“They say nothing, but they must know, an’ the fact, I know that they know, that they’re fake, because I’ve had Egyptologists email me personally, and I can’t divulge who these Egyptologists are, ’cause, you know, it, you know, I wouldn’t put their, their careers or their jobs or their, their living in jeopardy, but they have said to me, you’re right, we know they’re fake.”
Putting this in the context of a longer game, some of us will remember the similar claim he made in 2014:

Here in synopsis is the statement he attributed to his unnamed “Egyptologist friend”:
“A very enjoyable read I must say though I have to take issue with one aspect and that is your belief that Egyptologists use the Vyse discovery of the cartouche as proof the Great Pyramid was built by Khufu. I have no idea just who you have been speaking to in the field but no-one I know believes that said cartouche is real. In fact, the vast majority of Egyptologists rightly know [sic] it to be a fake! As such, I would be somewhat careful if you intend to use said piece of ‘evidence’ to bolster your claims upon publication as in [sic] regards to ‘Egyptologists do not know what they are talking about’ as I am afraid you will be incorrect . . .
. . . If I were in your position I might just add a sentence along the lines of some forward thinking Egyptologists are in agreement with your own point of view and are now questioning the authenticity of said cartouche. . . .
. . . Yes you are quite correct in your statement about Egyptology and ‘unspoken truths’, a category that the Khufu cartouche fits into quite well. Very few dare speak out otherwise they would lose any vital funding they have managed to secure . . .”
The book in question at the time was The Secret Chamber of Osiris, which has a chapter on the Vyse question.
We may note in passing that his friend’s admonition did not deter Creighton from claiming that “Egyptologists consider the ochre-painted Khufu cartouche in the Great Pyramid as the ultimate proof that this pyramid belongs to the Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu.”
Readers will make up their own minds, of course. I myself make a simplifying assumption, the one which Occam’s razor suggests. So similar are the statements attributed to the Egyptologist of 21 January and the Egyptologists of 12 February that I assume they are one and the same. Same goes for the Egyptologist of 2014. Creighton’s statement of 21 January is merely harking back to what happened in 2014 and I profoundly doubt that he was contacted by other Egyptologists (reading from the same script) after that date. We remember also that Creighton has not been so easy to contact, after letting his eponymous domain lapse in 2016.
