I wanted to throw this out there, one reason gobekli tepe could have been buried is because those who built and or used the structure, viewed it as sacred and didn't want it to be defaced by an eminent attack. This is precisely what happened to the Mormons when Johnstons' army was sent to Utah to further persecute this exiled people. Brigham Young had them bury the foundation to the Salt Lake temple and the residents were prepared to burn down the city. Just a thought, we know events tend to repeat themselves somewhat.
